Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler

Heavy metal godfather Geezer Butler, bassist of the legendary band Black Sabbath, was arrested on Tuesday night on charges of misdemeanor assault, public intoxication, and vandalism at The Corkscrew Saloon on the grounds of the Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley, California. Details are sketchy but it seems that Butler was involved in a physical altercation with another man that resulted in property damage to the bar.

The Inyo County sheriff’s department issued the following press release regarding the matter. See it here below.

Shortly after midnight on January 27th Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding a verbal and physical altercation that took place at the Corkscrew Saloon located at the Furnace Creek Ranch property in Death Valley National Park.

After the Inyo County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene and interviewed witnesses it was determined that
there had been an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation – resulting in an individual being struck, and a broken window. Terence Michael Butler a 65-year old man from Beverly Hills, CA was arrested for
misdemeanor assault, public intoxication and vandalism.

Butler was booked into the Inyo County Jail and released after detox and citation.

Butler is a founding member of Black Sabbath and the band’s principal lyricist, having penned such classics as “War Pigs,” “N.I.B.,” “Iron Man,” and “Heaven and Hell.” Black Sabbath is planning to embark on their final album and tour in the very near future. Their most recent album, 13, was their first in 35 years with original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. The single “God Is Dead?” won last year’s Grammy in the “Best Heavy Metal Performance” category.

  1. Whoever wrote that press release from the sheriff’s department didn’t do their research! While Geezer may reside in Beverly Hills, he’s not from there; he’s form Birmingham, England. This kind of drunken brawl sounds more like the kind of trouble I would expect Ozzy to get into, but then all the Sabbath were a pretty rowdy bunch in their day. Hopefully Geezer can back to making music soon; Black Sabbath have talked about doing one last album and tour and retiring, I’m on board with that, “13” was better than anyone expected and a worthy entry in the Sabbath musical catalog!
