THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN-PART 2 07

The sparkling vampires are coming to Facebook.

Six screenplays have been selected for The Storytellers “” New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga, a planned series of short films based on characters from the Twilight universe that will be released on Facebook, according to THR.

The criteria for the scripts, which were chosen by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, Lionsgate, Women In Film, Facebook, and Volvo, were that each one had to center on one character from The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide in a story set before Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart in the films) arrived in Forks, WA, where the Cullen vampire clan resides; also, the screenwriters had to be female and at least 13 years old.

In the The Twilight Saga films based on Meyer’s novels, vampire Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson in the films) lives in the rainy Washington town of Forks along with his adoptive vampire parents, Carlisle and Esme, and four adoptive vampire siblings – Alice, Emmett, Rosalie, and Jasper. The Cullen clan consider themselves “vegetarian,” as they chose to not consume human blood, but instead subsist only on the blood of animals. Carlisle blends in with the townspeople as a respected doctor, while his undead children, who have the physical appearance of teenagers, attend the local high school. It’s at school where Edward, who’s actually over 100 years old, first meets the human teenaged Bella Swan and the two eventually fall in love and she gets let in on the secret that her boyfriend and his family are actually vampires. Oh, and that these vampires sparkle in the sun (spoilers!).

Meyer’s four Twilight novels were adapted for the big screen as five films released from 2008 to 2012, with the final book being split into two movies (Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2). The film franchise from Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate went on to gross over $3 billion worldwide at the box office on its combined $385 million budget. The first film grossed $392 millon worldwide on its relatively meager $37 million budget.

Of the six selected stories for The Storytellers, Alice Cullen (played by Ashley Greene in the films) is the standout character, being featured in three of the scripts. The vampire Benjamin of the Egyptian coven (played by Rami Malek in the films); Edward’s dad Dr. Carlisle Cullen (played by Peter Facinelli in the films); and the pain-inflicting Volturi guard Jane (played by Dakota Fanning in the films) have one story each.

The Storytellers project committee is now on the hunt for directors who will adapt each of the screenplays into a 5-10 minute film, which will then be shown exclusively on Facebook, the popular social networking platform. The six winning screenplays can be downloaded here.
