The first trailer and Super Bowl spot for Pitch Perfect 2 only provided a sampling of the plot of the upcoming a capella sequel starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. The tone for both were a bit somber and gave us a few chuckles, but the latest trailer brings back a lot of what made the original so funny with witty and sometimes raunchy humor (courtesy of Wilson), and banter between film director and star Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins.

We’ve known that the film would center on the Barden Bellas competing in the World A Capella Championships. But the trailer provides a bit more back story as to why they are competing. As we see, a small mishap in front of the President forced the Bellas to give their title away, and the only way to earn it back is to compete in the World Championships, where no US team has ever won.
The trailer does have that comedy that we all know and love, but the music seems to be taking a back set. Hopefully, if Universal does release a new trailer, it will be more music centric. But director Elizabeth Banks does seem to bring back a few older songs from A Tribe Called Quest, but also mixes it with current ones like Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”
This will be Banks’ directorial debut. She was also a producer on the first Pitch Perfect.
Opening May 15, Pitch Perfect 2 also stars Brittany Snow and Hailee Steinfeld.
The Barden Bellas are back in Pitch Perfect 2, the follow-up to summer 2012’s smash hit. The comedy is helmed by Elizabeth Banks, co-star and producer of Pitch Perfect, and produced by Paul Brooks, Max Handelman and Banks. Writer Kay Cannon returns to the team to pen the next chapter.
