The people behind American Horror Story and Glee, two diametrically opposed televisions series that are both entertaining in their own way, are bringing a new horror-comedy TV show to FOX this Fall with Scream Queens.
FOX has released the first teaser for Ryan Murphy‘s new network television series, which you can watch here below.
The video sees star Emma Roberts, who has been part of the cast of the FX horror anthology America Horror Story, sporting sorority attire and an attitude, approaching the camera as she blows a bubble with her bubble gum. From this short teaser, we can deduce Roberts’ character is in a sorority (you can see the Sorority house in the background), is perhaps a mean girl, and possibly a future scream queen (or maybe a “Final Girl”).
Let’s hope Roberts isn’t knocked off in the first episode, which undoubted will see someone murdered, though chances are it will be a lesser-known actress. The first 12-second first teaser, which was released back in February, played up the slasher/horror aspect of the show.
Scream Queens, which will apparently follow the anthology format of AHS and is being described as “genre bending,” will have a star-studded first season with the aforementioned Roberts in the cast, along with Joe Manganiello, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, and legendary scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis of the classic horror Halloween film franchise. Singer Ariana Grande will also have a reoccurring role, and Nick Jonas will also appear in some capacity.
The first season of Scream Queens, which has an order for 15 one-hour episodes, takes place at a college campus which is hit by a string of murders. Production on this inaugural season will begin this Spring, with the premiere to air in Fall 2015 on FOX.
Scream Queens has definitely caught my attention with their impressive cast, especially Jamie Lee Curtis, who I love in everything she does. Roberts seems perfect for this type of vehicle, and it will be great to see True Blood’s hunky werewolf Joe Manganiello back on the small screen. With Glee ending soon, I’m sure fans of that show will be excited to see its sweetheart Lea Michele in another FOX series. Like I mentioned, Glee (on FOX) and AHS (on FOX’s cable network FX) are so different, but the same people are making Scream Queens, which I’m guessing will be a hybrid of the two previous shows.
Official details via FOX press release:
Joe Manganiello (“True Blood,” “Magic Mike XXL”), Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominee Lea Michele (GLEE), Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin (“Little Miss Sunshine,” “Zombieland,” “August: Osage County”) and Keke Palmer (“Akeela and the Bee,” “Masters of Sex”) have been cast as series regulars in SCREAM QUEENS, a new comedy-horror anthology series from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan and Dante Di Loreto, the executive producers of GLEE and “American Horror Story.” Additionally, Grammy Award nominee and actress Ariana Grande will guest-star in a recurring role.
