Netflix will kick off their Marvel series run later this month with Daredevil, developed by Drew Goddard. It will then move on to AKA Jessica Jones, with Melissa Rosenberg serving as showrunner. Now we are learning that Cheo Hodari Coker (Ray Donavan, Southland) will act as showrunner for Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter (The Good Wife, American Horror Story: Coven) in the title role.
Variety broke the news yesterday. In addition to being a showrunner, Coker will also be a co-executive producer on the show.
Colter stars as Luke Cage, who will make an appearance in one episode of AKA Jessica Jones. He will then head over to headline his title series.
Now that Luke Cage has a creative mind at the helm, all this leaves is Iron Fist. As soon as Marvel and Netflix finds its cast and creative team for Iron Fist, they will turn their attention to working on The Defenders‘ series, which a culmination of the four heroes working together to defend the streets of New York City.
According to the press release, Coker will write the first two episodes, which is slated for a 2016 release in territories where Netflx is available.
Coker’s feature film credits include Fox Searchlight’s rap biopic Notorious. He also authored the book Unbelievable: The Life, Death, and Afterlife of The Notorious B.I.G.
No word yet on who else will star, but expect Charlie Cox of Daredevil and Krysten Ritter of AKA Jessica Jones to make a cameo appearance.
