| Blu-ray Review: Ghoulies / Ghoulies II Double Feature From Scream Factory |

Ghoulies

Scream Factory
Rated PG-13 | 81 Minutes
Release Date: April 21, 2015 Directed by Luca Bercovici, 1985’s Ghoulies is a creature feature in the vein of Gremlins, Critters, and Troll. Jonathan Graves (Peter Liapis) uncovers his late father’s occult paraphernalia in his family’s mansion. Graves attempts to summon the demonic forces his father dabbled with in hopes of gaining supernatural powers. As a result, the Ghoulies arrive to terrorize everyone who participated in the ritual. Ghoulies is one of those films notorious for its absorbing and irresistible box art. I remember seeing Bercovici’s movie on the shelves of my local mom-and-pop video store — Movieland Video — and wondering why this little green monster was wearing a blue belly shirt and red suspenders while climbing out of a toilet. Needless to say, I had to rent it.

There has only been one trailer for Joe Wright‘s Pan. The Peter Pan origins story was expected to open in theaters this summer, which would have put it in direct competition with Marvel’s Ant-Man and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Now it looks like Warner Bros. doesn’t think the film would fare well against those two films or in the summer movie season in general, as they have rescheduled the movie for a fall release. Bates Motel
Season 3 Episode 7: “The Last Supper”
Directed by Ed Bianchi
Written by Philip Buiser
Starring Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Max Thieriot, Nestor Carbonell, Olivia Cooke, Kenny Johnson
A&E
Air Date: Monday, April 20th, 2015, 9pm Each episode of Bates Motel builds momentum to an expected crescendo finish. Before we review the 7th episode of this buildup, let’s recap what happened last week. Norma (Vera Farmiga) flipped out when Dylan (Max Thieriot) told her Caleb (Kenny Johnson) had been staying with him at the farm. Norman (Freddie Highmore) stood by his brother in a rare choosing of sides. That levelheadeness did not last long when Norma packed a suitcase and left, crashing her car, buying some “come get me” clothes, and checking into a (different) motel. This triggered a giant Norman episode, complete with his “Norma” personality mothering Dylan. Emma (Olivia Cooke) stayed to help, and she and Dylan had a moment (over phlegm). Norma slept with her therapist/lover then ran back home.
