“Call me Snake…”

Co-written and directed by John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing), 1981’s Escape from New York is set in a then near-future 1997, in a crime-ridden United States that has transformed Manhattan into a maximum security prison.

Synopsis: In a world ravaged by crime, the entire island of Manhattan has been converted into a walled prison where brutal prisoners roam. But when the US president (Donald Pleasence) crash-lands inside, only one man can bring him back: notorious outlaw and former Special Forces war hero Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell). But time is short. In 24 hours, an explosive device implanted in his neck will end Snake’s mission – and his life – unless he succeeds!

Game Of Thrones Season 5 Maisie Williams as Arya Stark

Game Of Thrones
Episode 5.2 “The House of Black and White”
Directed by Michael Slovis
Written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss
Starring Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Aidan Gillen, Kit Harington, Diana Rigg, Natalie Dormer, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner
HBO
Air date: Sunday, April 19, 2015, 9pm

Last week’s Season 5 premiere of HBO’s Game Of Thrones, Episode 5.2 “Wars To Come,” felt more like a prologue to catch us up as to where all the characters are now rather than a fully formed episode. The premiere also left out one very important character who we’ve all been waiting to see — Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who was last seen presenting a coin and speaking the words “Valar morghulis” to board a ship to the free city of Braavos. Instead, we got a flashback of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) as a young girl, where we see she was a bitch even back then (although, we knew that from all the stories told about her); Cersei and twin brother/baby daddy Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in the present day just barely mourning the loss of their father Tywin (Charles Dance); Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and the eunuch Varys (Conleth Hill) escaping Kings Landing and making it to Pentos; Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) ruling in Meereen with the same old problems; and Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) being offered the chance of a lifetime to rule Winterfell.

‘Transformers 5’ Targets 2017 Release

Transformers: Age of Extinction poster crop

Despite Transformers: Age of Extinction being one of the lowest grossing of all the live-action Transformer films, the franchise will be getting a fifth installment. Recent news of the franchise forming a story trust to expand for possible crossovers (though not one with G.I. Joe) would allow for endless – yet possibly mindless action-filled possibilities. We’re not really sure what to make of Transformers 5, due to the fact that development on the film has been inactive. Now we are getting word that Hasbro is eyeing Transformers 5 for a 2017 release.

Lizzie Borden Chronicles 103-01

The Lizzie Borden Chronicles
Episode 1.3 “Flowers”
Directed by Russell Mulcahy
Written by Barbara Nance
Starring Christina Ricci, Clea Duvall, Cole Hauser, Bradley Stryker, Jeff Wincott, Olivia Llewellyn, Dylan Taylor, Kimberly-Sue Murray
Lifetime
Air Date: Sunday, April 19th, 2015, 10pm ET

We are three episodes in for Lifetime’s “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles” limited series event and I am thoroughly enjoying this undiscovered little jewel. But before we get to reviewing 1.3 “Flowers,” let’s recap last week’s “Patron of the Arts.”

There are some spoilers if you haven’t watched “Flowers” yet.

What we probably knew before and definitely know now, is that Lizzie (Christina Ricci) enjoys her notoriety. She and Emma (Clea Duvall) attend a risque performance, and get invited to an afterparty because of Lizzie’s fame. There they meet the playwright, Spencer, who tries to get Lizzie to be his “patron” for his next play. He also tries and fails at seducing her. Lizzie rescues a prostitute, Adele, from her terrible lot. She goes to see Mr. Flowers about it, and they politely compare the size of their d***s. Siringo (Cole Hauser) and Lizzie do a silent dance around their enmity, while having a polite conversation. Siringo tries to insert logic into the investigation, but it falls on deaf ears. Spencer tries to rape Adele, so she sticks him with a pitchfork, then panics and gets Lizzie. Lizzie finishes him off.
