It’s finale time! Another inaugural season is at an end. Thank goodness we are going to be gifted with a season 2! This quirky zombie police procedural has captured our hearts, much akin to Buffy or Veronica Mars (of which Rob Thomas also created). I cannot wait until next season to see where the adventures of Liv, Clive, Ravi, and Major (Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley) take us next during this secret zombie infiltration.

Warning! There are spoilers for tonight’s finale!

Last week on iZombie, a cheerleader dies at the hand of Sebastian, the zombie that Liv created. He came after Liv, but she ended up raging out and having a zombie death match in her kitchen. Peyton (Aly Michalka) woke up just in time to see Liv stab him in the head, then promptly ran away. Poor Liv! And poor Ravi! Major gets ready for the war on zombies, and gets caught. Somebody call Rick Grimes! He is trussed up but manages to hear Liv’s brother get the job at the butcher shop.

iZombie 1.13 “Blaine’s World” review: What a finale! There are deaths and bad choices, and hard choices – more than usual.

The case: What case? Oh, the case! Teresa did not survive, as expected. Liv gets some Max Rager-y visions. Steven Weber is back as smarmy CEO, Vaugan. Cameron (Rhys Ward) tries to get cash out of the thumb drive he killed for, but now he has a giant target on his back. Score one for the cops, because they get him to sing without a deal for killing his friends (hey-humans can be killers too). The story that was meant to get out by that now-dead reporter is out. Creepy that it doesn’t lessen Vaughan’s smile.

Major: Or should we call him Rambo? He is trapped in a freezer. Blaine plans on freezing him as torture, and serving up some brain soup. But while Blaine is out tricking Liv, Major MacGyver’s (verb) out of the freezer using a lighter, a corpse, a frozen limb, and his own piss (literally). Yeah. I know. He then takes out the whole crew, including season baddie Julian Dupont (Aleks Paunovic). Blaine comes back and guts him in the side with a knife, then in his heart with the truth about Liv. Oh man. He reacted as we expected. And so did Liv when she scratched him. He is not a happy zombie, I mean, camper. Liv redeems herself (a teensy bit), when she injects him with the cure, screwing the world (and unbeknownst to her – her brother).

Blaine (David Anders): What a fun villain! Now, I know he is cured, and probably does not want to stop his moneymaker, so he will probably go get himself infected again. But watching him enjoy food at the end is great. That’s how I look when I taste something utterly delicious. This episode was his world. Hats off to you Blaine!

Zombie rat cure: The new zombie rat is cured. Will it die like the last? I have mixed feelings. I hope it’s fine because of Major getting a dose (and will lose that adorable white streak in his hair). But do I hope it’s not fine because Blaine was dosed? Nah. I love Blaine. I want him to stay on the show in any way possible – like a nemesis. Hey – they made Spike a hero on Buffy, they can turn Blaine around.

Lieutenant Suzuki (Hiro Kanagawa): RIP

That ending: So baby bro (Nick Purcha) happily skips (ok – maybe he doesn’t skip) to his first day at his new job at the zombie butcher shop. He spies the carnage and then it explodes. He is losing a lot of blood. Liv is the only one who can donate.

“No.”

See you in October, iZombie, and thank you.
