It’s already been over two years since we found out that Bryan Cranston, Rebel Wilson, and Mads Mikkelsen (who has since departed the cast due to scheduling conflict) had been cast in Kung Fu Panda 3, joining returning stars Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, David Cross, and Dustin Hoffman. It’s already been four years since Kung Fu Panda 2 arrived in theaters, believe it or not, on its way to $665.6 million worldwide.
Now the sequel has resurfaced as DreamWorks Animation begins promoting the movie. The first images have been released online and can be seen below, along with some quotes from the cast.
As anyone who has seen the previous movie knows, the trilogy maker was set up to involve Po the lovable panda (voiced by Jack Black) reuniting with his biological panda family. This is indeed the case, as Po is reunited with his father Li (Bryan Cranston), described as being the “master of chilling, of having fun,” who brings his son back to the village his fellow pandas have been living in since the attack shown in the previous film. While there he also meets Mei Mei (Rebel Wilson), who’s described as an “overeager, amorous young female panda” and “wannabe ribbon dancer.”
But of course this causes some issues with Po’s adopted father, noodle master Mr. Ping (James Hong), who is naturally protective of Po. If that wasn’t enough, a supernatural enemy named Kai (who was going to be voiced by Mikkelsen before his departure; no word on who might be voicing the character now) threatens both the village and the world, forcing Po to train his panda family to fight and defend themselves when the time comes.
