Last week on Olympus, Hero (Tom York) and Ariadne (Sophia Lauchlin Hirt – who stalked him into loving her) found Pandora’s tomb, which they believe is the door to Olympus. Aegeus (Graham Shiels) runs his mouth as he usually does, and Lykos (Wayne Burns) goes to defend him, killing a man then falling to the ground, injured. Medea (Sonita Henry) finds herself all tied up.

Olympus 1.10 “Heritage” review: This episode contained the best scene of the series thus far. Medea, still tied to a stake in the ground, trapped beneath a corpse, hazily comes to. A little boy is untying her, while another little boy speaks cruelly about her. They both have their throats cut. She murmurs words of love and apology. They are her two sons, the boys she killed in the moment of insanity. What made it more jarring and tragic, was when Lykos walked over and led them away. He really is dead. He died a hero, defending his father.

Oracle (Sonya Cassidy) and King Minos (Alan C. Peterson) don’t really move around too much this episode. I think their role was more for exposition.

Medea finds Hero curled up in the tomb – alone. She revives him and he is anguished at Ariadne’s death. Look on the bright side Hero. You killed your love, solving the first Lexicon challenge. The next one involves “heritage.” Unfortunately, Pandora’s tomb was not the entrance to Olympus, but to Hades. The murk is the River Styx which ferries the dead passengers to the Underworld. They must make a run for it because creepy fog spills out of the tomb towards the city, bringing…

The dead.

Medea and Hero get separated in the fog, kinda like 2 alternate realities. Hero is visited by Ariadne, who wants a cold dead kiss and some cold dead sex. He is able to resist. Medea sees her dead little ones. One wants a cold kiss too. Daedalus (Matt Frewer) sees Icarus. He doesn’t want a kiss, but does try to take him back to Hades with him.

Hero figures out where his heritage is and then has a massive swordfight with Aegeus. One dies. The other is reunited with Medea, but perhaps not for long. It gets extremely nippy, and they will most likely freeze to death.

Not only was that 1st scene the best in the Olympus series, the rest of it made it the best entire episode of the season. There was so much to do with the revisiting dead. And it allowed the actors (characters) to show raw emotion. The Hero loving Ariadne is still a bit hard to swallow. It was really heartwarming to see real love between Medea and Aegeus.

Olympus airs Thursday nights at 11pm ET on Syfy.
