Universal and Illumination Entertainment have released the first trailer for their animated comedy The Secret Life of Pets. As the title suggests, the film will focus on what pets do while their owners are away for work or school. The film is the studios’ fifth animated film, and is directed Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) and Yarrow Cheney. with a script written by Brian Lynch, Cinco Paul, and Ken Daurio.
Though the teaser trailer you will see below doesn’t have much dialogue, the film features a voice cast that includes Louis C.K., Jenny Slate, Kevin Hart, and many more. Check it out below.
Universal and Illumination entertainment have had a string of hits as of late, releasing Despicable Me, its sequel, and its spinoff Minions, which will hit theaters later this year and looks to be yet another promising comedy about those tiny yellow creatures that we all know and love.
The premise of The Secret Life of Pets isn’t wholly original, but it will be fun to see what ideas Illumination has come up with to make us think what pets do while their owners are gone. As a dog owner, I constantly think about what he is doing to keep himself occupied while I am away. It’s probably not as crazy as turning on kitchen mixers to use for a massage. So while it may sound like it could have been a disaster, the film does have some incredible comedic talent voicing its characters. In addition to the aforementioned names, Eric Stonestreet, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress, and Albert Brooks are also on board for this animated pet comedy. Although I’m wondering if Universal and Illumination ever toyed with the idea that the film could have been dialogue free.
The Secret Life of Pets opens in theaters on July 6, 2016.
