So after the huge fallout between Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios, the director is looking to get back to doing what he does best. His newest project, which he will write and direct, is Baby Driver. The movie is being described as “the ultimate rock-and-roll car chase film.” So far the only people to star in the film are Ansel Elgort (The Divergent Series: Insurgent, The Faults In Our Stars) and Lily James (Cinderella, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).
While the young stars have yet to establish their names, Baby Driver will be adding some A-list talent to give the film some major star power. A new report says that Jamie Foxx will now be joining the cast of the film. More on the story below.
Deadline was the first to report on the news, but was unable to say anything about Foxx’s role in the film. The site adds that Wright will write and direct, with his longtime collaborators, Working Title co-chiefs Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, producing along with Nira Park through her Big Talk Productions.
Baby Driver centers on a young mute getaway driver (played by Elgort) who suffers from a condition that leaves a constant ringing in his ears. The only thing that will help him relieve him of this pain is his own personal soundtrack. But a job goes south, and the mob starts going after him and everything that he holds dear, including the love of his life (James).
Filming isn’t expected to start for some time, since Foxx is currently working on Baran Bo Odar’s Sleepless Nights, a remake of the 2011 French film Nuit Blanche, where he plays a cop with a connection to the criminal underworld who has to venture into the criminal underworld in search of his missing son.
Foxx’s previous efforts include Ray, Collateral, and Django Unchained.
Baby Driver opens March 17, 2017.
