At the 2015 New York Comic-Con on Thursday, Star Wars fans had all their fanboy/fangirl dreams come true, when the Star Wars Rebels Season 2 trailer debuted at the panel, which saw appearances by executive producer Dave Filoni, along with the voice cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar as Seventh Sister, Taylor Gray as Ezra, and Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, her character from The Clone Wars.
See here below for more details from the panel, along with some photos of the stars.
We saw Ahsoka descend down a ladder at the end of Rebels Season 1, and it proceeded to blow up the Internet.
Last season, the group of rebels defeated The Grand Inquisitor, but there are still other inquisitors that all need to impress Lord Vader.
One clip shown at the panel was of Ezra in action in a scene where he accidentally shot Kanan, and Rex is disguised as a stormtrooper. (Don’t worry, they’re OK.)
Another clip was Ahsoka’s return to the fray. Eckstein said it’s a very different Ahsoka. She used to be a lot like Ezra, and now she’s more like Obi-Wan or Yoda. It’s been 9 years.
Taylor Gray was asked what was Ezra’s journey like to be suddenly propelled into this larger galaxy. Gray says he knows a bit more about it than he did before. It was commented that Kanan, who is voiced by Freddie Prince Jr., is literally teaching Gray about Star Wars, kind of like the show.
Prince’s wife and Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has joined the cast for Season 2. She was asked who her favorite character in the universe was. She says she of course loves Han Solo, but if she could play any character it would be Anakin around the time of the Clone Wars, during that transition.
Here’s some picks from the audience Q&A:
Q- I’ve been waiting for 15 years. I’ve gone through so much struggle to be independent, and I ask myself “What would Buffy do?”
SMG gives the girl a hug.
Eckstein said that Gellar’s even more of a strong character in real life – business woman, mother. #girlcrush
Gellar: “I’m just thrilled to be a part of this family.”
Q- Now that everything is part of the continuity and there’s space in between, are we gonna see stuff that fills in gaps?
Gellar: “Like a Seventh Sister show?”
Filoni: There’s no end to the possibilities in animation for Star Wars content. “If you guys are hungry for it, we will make it.”
The panel ended with the exclusive brand new Star Wars Rebels Season 2 trailer, which shows scenes from the first half of Season 2, which premieres on October 14th on Disney XD.
