Over the past two weeks, we’ve delved deeper in the mindsets of the our main characters. First Dash (Stark Sands) fell in love with a murder suspect and had to talk her down; last week Lara Vega (Meagan Good) came face to face with her dad’s killer and barely kept things under control. This week we get a peek into the mysterious island where the pre-cog siblings grew up after pre-crime was ended. Agatha (Laura Regan) still lives on Fiddler’s Neck Island, away from the chaos of city life. Arthur (Nick Zano) meanwhile has been an uneasy accomplice to Dash and Vega in helping prevent murders. When Agatha gets a vision of her old flame’s daughter dying, she calls in reinforcement”¦ which is bit strange being as she’s been trying to convince her brothers that Vega is working against them.

“You think Agatha is shaken up now… just wait” Arthur warns Dash about Vega’s involvement.

The island; a former peninsula morphed through global warming, is not run by the government, but rather protected by “The Guard,” a group of islanders led by Fetts (TJ Linnard). Agatha’s pre-cog sight is as the victim, whereas Dash sees the murders, and Arthur gets the logistics and data. Her former boss and ex-lover Brian (Kenneth Mitchell) has a daughter who will die via poison unless the pre-cogs and Vega stop it. Turns out, the girl has Malaria (yes, there’s a cure for Malaria in 2065), but this begins another debate still raging in the future about vaccinations vs. holistic cures. That would be an interesting murder charge; denying your child meds which could have prevented their death.

Back in the city, Wally (Daniel London) and Akeela (Li Jun Li) are forced into an uncomfortable working relationship to find out why the government is looking into Blake (Wilmer Valderrama). I love his choked up reaction when she gets flirtatious. When their tit for tat goes a bit too far, the computer interrupts with news that the government is looking into Blake because his cops have a suspiciously high success rate with the Hawk-Eye system (cough pre-cog… cough, cough). Agatha and Vega get uncomfortably acquainted as well on Fiddler’s Neck. When Vega promises she’s not selling out Dash and the pre-cogs, Agatha delivered a poignant response:

“I’ll feather my bed with your good intentions Detective.”

While Dash and Arthur await meds via drone, they’re interrupted by The Guard who make it dreadfully obvious that they are up to no good. “If you’re the law, it’s easier to break the law, isn’t that right?” asks Arthur to Fetts. “Someone had to pick up where you left off.” Dash and Arthur figure out the Guard’s plan – to poison the family for their rich land.

After the resolution, the pre-cogs share a moment on the dock:

Arthur – “You know what I love about this place?”
Dash – “No.”
Arthur – “Me neither… Hey sis, how about next year, it’s my place for Thanksgiving.”

I liked this episode (as usual). Agatha was the one main character that we never got any solid background on, and this episode gave Laura Regan a chance to shine. Arthur is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, as Nick Zano has the “sarcastic nonchalant jerk with a heart of gold” character down to a tee. He reminds me a lot of early LOST Sawyer only with powers. And the quirky sidekick pairing of Akeela and Wally is fun. As is the norm with this show, it’s the moral dilemmas and actual hard questions that are most intriguing. Hawk-Eye is the “predictive policing” program to replace pre-crime, but Blake’s under investigation because it’s working too well? There is more than meets the eye with everyone. More people should be watching this show!
