Sandy King Carpenter, the wife of horror legend John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China), was a guest on the horror podcast Killer POV recently, and revealed that they have developed four different TV series together.
According to King, the series include a horror show, a sci-fi show, and one that’s a little bit of both, all of them unlike anything on the air today. She says they’re just waiting for a network, and she expects all of them will be made eventually. The duo would be executive producers on the series if they do get made, and John would also direct the pilot episodes, as is common when a director is involved with a TV show.
Here’s the quote from King Carpenter:
“Right now, there’s four series waiting to go to network. As far as I’m concerned, we’ll do all of them. I mean, they’re great, and they’re different from anything that’s out there, and they again push the boundaries of what’s horror. [John] would be directing pilots and we would be executive producing them. There’s sci-fi, there’s horror, there’s one that I guess would be [a] sci fi-horror futuristic kind of thing. They’re all across the board. I think they’ll fulfill what people expect out of him by also being unpredictable.”
John Carpenter has done a little bit of work in the realms of TV before, directing a couple of episodes of Masters of Horror, 2005’s “Cigarette Burns” starring The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus and 2006’s “Pro-Life.” He’s also directed a couple of TV movies.
Sadly he hasn’t directed anything lately. The last thing he directed was the 2010 horror flick The Ward, and the last movie he directed before that was 2001’s Ghosts of Mars—neither of which did very well. So it would be exciting to see him get behind the camera again for some new shows. Get on that, networks.
King Carpenter also mentioned that there may just be some chances to see Carpenter, who often composes the music for his work as well, live and in person here in the States soon:
“I have a feeling there may be other chances [to see him]. But I have a feeling I’ll also be killed if I say anything.”
It’s already been confirmed that he’ll be performing in the UK and Iceland next year, so it would make sense.
