Canadian prog trash metal pioneers Voivod have announced the upcoming release of a new EP called Post Society, which will feature five songs.
The 30-minute mini-CD EP will include five studio tracks: 2 new selections; 2 previous vinyl-only releases; and a cover of “Silver Machine,” the 1972 Hawkwind tune that featured Lemmy Kilmister in his pre-Motorhead dates.
Check out the track listing and EP cover artwork by Voivod drummer Michel “Away” Langevin for Post Society here below, along with the band’s revised tour dates.
From the EP, “Forever Mountain” was previously available only on the Split 7″ EP Voivod did with fellow Century Media band Napalm Death, while “We Are Connected” comes from their limited edition Split 7″ EP with labelmates At The Gates. “Post Society” and “Fall” are new tracks, with “Silver Machine” being a cover of the popular Hawkwind song that featured the bass and lead vocals of Motorhead’s Lemmy, who passed away on December 28, 2015.
Here’s a statement drummer Michel “Away” Langevin gave to Century Media about the upcoming release and more:
“More songs from out in the woods! In between tours, we are steadily finding our way through recording the next album at RadicArt studio. Many riffs were composed on the bus but until the North American tour with Vektor in 2016, we will spend most of wintertime in Montreal writing another batch of material. Meanwhile, we hope you will enjoy this EP of good old thrash-prog-punk-metal or whatever people want to call Voïvod nowadays :)”
In January 2013, Voivod released their 13th studio album, Target Earth, their first with guitarist Daniel Mongrain aka Chewy (replacing the late Denis D’Amour aka Piggy, who passed away in 2005). It also marked the return of original bassist Jean-Yves Theriault (Blacky), who eventually left the band, and was replaced by newcomer Dominique Laroche aka Rocky. The current line-up consists of Snake on vocals, Away on drums, Chewy on guitar, and Rocky on bass.
Post Society will be released on February 26th, 2016 via Century Media Records as a Digipak CD as well as a digital download. Pre-Order for the CD is available now at Amazon.
