Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have released a brand new trailer for their highly anticipated Mirror’s Edge sequel, titled Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.

The new trailer aims to set up the story of the game you can expected to be thrown into when you get to play it. You can read much more about the game and check out the new trailer below.

Fluidity of Movement and Combat in First Person Gameplay

Mind, hands and controller working in perfect unison, the impulses from your brain effortlessly translated into fluid movement on the screen. This is the main experience of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. Faith is your extension into Glass city, she is your avatar in this world, and through her you will learn to master the urban landscape, allowing you to directly partake of all the thrills and elegance of parkour running. Faith’s agility is yours, as is her speed and proficiency. As your skills grow so does your reach and gadgets will expand it even further, making seemingly impossible locations available to the daring. If you’re good enough all of the city will eventually become your playground.

This is a game about skill, but accessibility systems allow it to be enjoyed by novices and masters alike. Go for a quick Dash across the rooftops and try to beat the latest high score, or explore those hard-to-reach locations and see if you have the patience and tenacity to figure out how to get there. The storyline leads you across the city, pushing you to scale the greatest heights and explore deepest tunnels, while you quickly weave in and out of all kinds of buildings.

But though the main experience is centered around fluidity of movement Faith does have enemies and she is a skilled fighter. Combat too is focused on movement and agility, and Faith has no use for guns, having vowed long ago never to use them again. Instead her own body is the projectile, and properly guided she cuts through enemies like a sweeping scythe, dropping them left and right, while never staying still long enough for them to be able to hit her. Combining momentum, timing and your mastery of the environment is the key to claiming victory.

Faith’s eyes are yours and all of it is seen through a first-person perspective. Run free and quicken your slumbering potential, the city of Glass awaits.

Run free in first person through a massive city

The city of Glass is yours to explore. What secrets are to be found atop the tallest skyscrapers? What goes on behind the glittering facades? And what does the abandoned tunnels below the city hold in store? Glass is a character of its own – beautiful and stylized on the outside, but also hiding many ugly truths underneath its polished surface.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst lets you experience the life of a runner, roaming free on the rooftops as you discover new paths and take part in a variety of challenges. The first-person movement offers a stirring experience with an unprecedented sense of freedom, all of it focused on immersing the player in the breath-taking fluidity of real-life parkour. Beyond her already impressive move set, Faith will also have access to gadgets giving her even more possibilities.

The main story is told through a series of linked missions, but in between them players have total freedom to explore the city and run races, solve puzzles and more. For example “Dash”, is a type of race where you need to get from point A to B as quickly as possible. This will challenge both your ability to move fluidly and keep your momentum up, as well as your efficiency in navigating the city. There are also environmental puzzles, like the “Billboard Hack” where the challenge lies in finding your way up to the billboard so that you can hack it and display your runner tag instead of the corporate propaganda.

With Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, we set out to build the most thrilling first-person action-adventure experience possible. You are not just observing the events unfold in front of you, you ARE Faith, the catalyst of hope and change, and every move through the city is yours to make.

Experience the Rise of Faith

Meet Faith, a young, carefree runner living on the rooftops of the city of Glass.

What would life be like if we willingly gave away our privacy?

What would our world look like if there were no governments, only corporations?

Who would save us from our oppressors? From ourselves?

Could a young woman, without any superpowers, be a catalyst for change?

She is a fierce daredevil, graceful and elegant, and as efficient as she is powerful.

In a pristine city ruled by a ruthless Conglomerate made up of all-powerful corporations, privacy and personal freedom are things of the distant past. The citizens have become willing participants in their own enslavement, numbed into submission by pointless consumption and mindless entertainment. Anyone questioning the rulers is quietly removed, never to return. Fear keeps people in check while greed and envy drives them on.

Faith is a Runner living off the grid on the rooftops of the city. Proud and daring she takes on the toughest runs, working as a burglar, courier and corporate spy. Her life revolves around freedom and physicality, but when a single reckless choice tears her world apart she is reluctantly drawn into the anti-Conglomerate struggle. Refusing to compromise with her sense of what is right, Faith ends up on a collision course with the authorities, and her path takes her from the top of the tallest skyscraper down to the darkest tunnels below. Along the way she makes many new friends and enemies, and the city is forever changed in her wake.

Arrayed against her stands the Conglomerate and its powerful security arm KrugerSec, led by Gabriel Kruger – a proud man devoted to preserving the current order and to protect it against all enemies, internal and external. To him the ends justify the means, and he is willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to accomplish his goals.

Until now Kruger has ruled unopposed, but along comes Faith, and her journey transforms her into the catalyst for change that the city and its ailing populace so desperately needs.

This is the journey you will get to experience, the rise of Faith, her origin story.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst can be pre-ordered now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, and the game will be released on June 7, 2016.
