It isn’t at all unusual to see some sort of viral marketing campaign being held during SXSW in Austin, Texas. Many studios have done it before. And now, to help celebrate the Blu-ray release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this coming April, Disney and Lucasfilm have called on the help of none other than The First Order. In fact, the military and political organization that rose from the ashes of the Galactic Empire have already made their stop at the five-day film conference.
We have images from the SXSW event, plus a teaser from the first day of the film’s table read, which is one of the extras on the upcoming Blu-ray release. Check it out here below.
So it wouldn’t be much of a promotion if just two Stormtroopers showed up. There is also a life-size TIE Fighter that will sit outside the venue for fans and attendees to take photos in front of.
There is also a matter of the Blu-ray features, one of which is the first day of the table read. You might remember when the black and white photo appeared a few years back to commemorate the first day of production for The Force Awakens. Well, seeing as how that was one of the most important days for that film, it rightfully deserves a spot as an extra feature. Plus, how often do you get to see everyone involved in the movie be in the same room doing something as simple as a table read?
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will get a Digital HD release on April 1, and will be available on Blu-ray on April 5, 2016.
In celebration of the documentary “Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey” premiering at SXSW Film Festival, The First Order TIE Fighter and stormtroopers landed in Austin today. The feature-length documentary, which is an in-depth bonus feature on the upcoming Digital HD and Blu-ray Combo Pack debuts at the Paramount Theatre on March 14th in Austin, Texas. The TIE Fighter will be stationed at South Bites at SXSW throughout the weekend for festival goers to experience the landing!
