Last week on The Last Man On Earth, it was all about astronaut Mike Miller (Jason Sudeikis), after he crashed to Earth from space with only a worm (Phil) for company. That was the one of the fall finale cliffhangers, where Mike pretty much said, “f*** it” and sped toward the atmosphere. Mike crashed into a cruise ship and sunk it. He found a sailboat with a crazy Mark Boone Junior (SOA) as the sole occupant (of Earth it seemed). Boone Junior played Pat, who does not believe in virus immunity, but that exposure to land air means death. Nevertheless, they masked up and went to town, Mike checking out the massive bodies laid out. He spied the ‘Alive in Tucson” signs, but had to fight Pat to be free. He jumped out of his body bag at the end and headed to his hometown.

Spoilers below.

The Last Man On Earth 2.12 “Valhalla” review: This week’s episode opens with the other fall finale cliffhanger. They are gathered to give Phil Miller #2 (Boris Kodjoe) a viking funeral. Todd sings sadly to Gail’s accordion accompaniment. They all say their goodbyes, Melissa noticing the Todd/Gail connection (Mel Rodriguez/Mary Steenburgen). Phil #1 (now the only Phil – Will Forte) could not shoot the fiery bow and arrow at the coffin boat. Although I am sad to see Phil #2 go, it was a very realistic possibility on this ridiculous unbelievable show.

Phil tells Carol (Kristen Schaal) the Todd/Gail secret.

“Cheese and rice!” I love Carol. She doesn’t want to keep it from her best friend, but Phil is right for once – he pulls the husband card.

Melissa (January Jones) is acting a bit manic, which is quite refreshing since she’s always been so together. She’s un-bedazzling her Christmas boots with her teeth and smashing ornaments. Todd’s rejection of the proposal is rough on her. They make plans to hang out “as friends.” Do you think that works? Watch to find out!

Phil is also a bit manic about Phil’s death, although that is par for the course with him – he keeps talking to him, making up weird songs, crying, and wearing his clothes. That is until Erica (Cleopatra Coleman) tells him Phil’s next-to-last words, “Don’t let Tandy near our baby.” How does a weird guy try to discredit a dead guy? With porn, drugs, and slam poetry of course!

Things come together for Erica and Tandy in the end though.

Good episode. I’ve mentioned before that even though Phil is super annoying, he’s grown on us as he’s grown on the group, like your pesky little cousin that always farts and runs away. We reluctantly love him as they do. I’m not impressed with how Todd is handling his woman situation, but I guess he was not too popular in his old life. Carol is my favorite.

The Last Man On Earth airs Sunday nights at 9:30pm ET on FOX.
