Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for the big screen adaptation of Warcraft. Based on the popular game of the same name, the film is directed by Duncan Jones and stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky, and Daniel Wu.
This is rather short for a trailer, and something that could easily be confusing because of its short runtime and lack of plot reveal. Not that fans of the game need details considering they have been playing it for as long as they can remember. But for those who haven’t invested their time playing the game getting some sense of the story would have at least helped. Check out the trailer below.
From what we have seen in the past, this looks like a video game version of Lord of the Rings with giant birds, great beasts, swords, and mysticism all being integral parts of this film. Though its elements of swords, magic, castles, beasts, and giant birds were inspired by Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and other fantastical stories, Warcraft seems to be a very different fantasy, one that has a contemporary feel to it. Those minor changes in tone may be just the thing to get fans excited for the film.
But the most interesting part about this trailer is that there are no clear lines of heroes and villains. Each faction has a reason to fight, and we won’t know who to align with until at some point in the movie or when a trailer draws that line in the sand. Until then, we will just have to wait.
Warcraft opens in theaters near you on June 10, 2016.
Here is the official plot synopsis:

So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
