With every major Marvel release, there seems to be a vast amount of news surrounding future projects. Considering Captain America: Civil War is coming out in a few more weeks, we’ve heard a lot about Spider-Man and his titular film Spider-Man: Homecoming. But there are other titles to consider. And this one might hurt those who are fans of Inhumans, as it has been announced that Marvel will be pulling the film off its release schedule.
More on the story below.
There has been much speculation quite some time that Inhumans would be taken off the release schedule. The lack of development was certainly a factor, but when Marvel began to schedule other films like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Ant-Man and the Wasp, it started to look more like Inhumans would be pushed by the wayside. Deadline reports that the film isn’t so much as dead as it is being put on the backburner, left there for the studio to figure out what they can do with it until the time is right.
No doubt it was a tough decision for the studio to make, especially since it was one of the titles that were announced during the Phase 3 event at the El Capitan in 2014. Since then, Inhumans has experienced a few schedule changes themselves, having been pushed back from its November 2, 2018 to July 12, 2019.
We know that Joe Robert Cole has written a script for Inhumans, but it currently has no cast – although there have been rumors that Vin Diesel was in talks for a role – and no director.
Collider first hinted at trouble for Inhumans in an interview with Kevin Feige,
“Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.”
That seems to make sense as Disney has a number of properties they have to schedule around. From their own titles to Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, it’s hard for the studio to schedule everything so they’re not all releasing so close. The Jungle Book hit theaters on April 15, and Captain America: Civil War is due out in theaters on May 6. That’s just three weeks separating the two films from each other. So it makes sense that the studio doesn’t want any overlap.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted should any new developments come in.
