Last week on Once Upon A Time, Hades and Zelena (Greg Germann and Rebecca Mader) made promises to stay together and live in the real Storybrooke, while the rest of the heroes stay stuck. Regina (Lana Parilla) turned to Cora (Barbara Hershey) for help. Cora made the girls remember that they once knew and cared for one another, and was then able to move on. Zelena went to go talk to Hades, but got intercepted and kidnapped by Gold and Peter Pan (Robert Carlyle and Robbie Kay).

Spoilers below.

Once Upon A Time 5.20 “Firebird” review: Hades goes to the heroes for help getting Zelena back. And of course, they do. The contract is ripped up. They get Zelena back, almost without her heart (because, duh! Gold and Pan are evil), but Emma (Jennifer Morrison) saves her. Hades and Zelena finally share true love’s kiss, ending his banishment. He keeps his promise and removes their names from the tombstones, awaiting a portal which will take them all home.

Flashback to when Emma was on the run from the cops and on the run to her past. She gets caught by a bounty hunter, and asks said bounty hunter to help her find her past. But there’s nothing there. There’s a tragic ending to that flashback, but it is also the origin story of the red leather jacket and its symbolism.

Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and Emma try to do the whole share-a-heart thing, but it doesn’t work. Seems Hook has been dead a bit too long. Time for the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Hook and Emma have to go get some ambrosia and offer their heart up for the test. Good news – They pass the test because of true love. Bad news – no ambrosia.

Of course, even with that hiccup, there’s even worse news. While Henry is trying to write happy endings for the residents of UnderBrooke, Cruella and the blind witch show up and trap Regina, Robin, Henry and David (Parilla, Sean Maguire, Jared Gilmore, Josh Dallas) . Something is not right.

It was a Hades set-up. Damn it! I really wanted him to change for Zelena, but that would have been too quick. I thought she would catch on to that before they went topside, but no.

What?!?! I am completely heartbroken. Emma left Hook. Are you kidding me? He’s her true love and he’s a pirate and she leaves him? I would have moved into the Underworld to stay with him.

Rumple surprised me, returning Robin’s heart and betraying Peter Pan – fake heart filled with water from the River of Souls, ouch! He tucks his girl into Pandora’s box and takes the portal outta there. The heroes sans Hook leave as well.

Good episode that played with my heartstrings quite a bit. I really hope this is not the end of Hook. Despite the fact that sometimes he was pushed to the background, a fairy tale show needs a dashing rogue. I liked getting more of Emma’s background story, especially seeing how she became a bail bondsman and got her signature jacket.

Once Upon A Time airs Sunday nights at 8:00pm ET on ABC.

ABC’s synopsis:

Hades turns to the heroes to ask for help with getting Zelena back from Rumplestiltskin and Peter Pan. In return, he offers to take all their names off their tombstones. However, when Hook is still unable to leave, he and Emma must journey into the depths of the Underworld. Meanwhile, Cruella De Vil is determined to keep the heroes trapped in the Underworld. In flashbacks, Emma searches for answers about her family and makes an unexpected friendship.
