A new third-person action-adventure game was unveiled during E3 2016 titled Days Gone. The game is an open world post-apocalyptic game set a couple of years after a disease turned most of humanity into vicious, bloodthirsty creatures. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
Even though we’ve seen stuff like this many times before it really doesn’t get old so long as it’s done well, and this one looks to be done very well. Developer Bend Studio is smartly focusing the game on the characters and their story with the zombies being just part of the world they live in, similar to what we’ve seen in The Last of Us and The Walking Dead. But the real selling point for many could still be the zombies. A trailer and extended gameplay demo for Days Gone have been released, and as you’ll see below, they put A LOT of them on the screen at the same time, more than I’ve ever seen in a game. And they’re all coming to eat you.
Personally I’m on the fence about this one. It looks great, there’s no denying that, but I’m among those who utterly despise fast zombies. It’s the main reason World War Z didn’t do it for me. So we’ll have to see if these are actually “zombies” or not. If they’re still-living humans who are infected with something that makes them relentless killers, once again like The Last of Us, then I can get excited. The fact that shooting them pretty much anywhere—instead of having to put one in the head—would support that. We shall see!
Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic. Play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who rides the broken road, fighting to survive while searching for a reason to live.
At its core, Days Gone is about survivors and what makes them human: desperation, loss, madness, betrayal, friendship, brotherhood, regret, love – and hope. It’s about how even when confronted with such enormous tragedy they find a reason to live. Hope never dies.
