Judging by the look of Damien Chazelle‘s (Whiplash) La La Land, you would think that the film took place in old time Los Angeles. The music and the fashion just ooze it. However, the film actually takes place in modern-day where a jazz musician (Ryan Gosling) and an actress (Emma Stone) are star-crossed lovers who deal with their daily struggles of trying to make it big in Hollywood by singing and dancing.
Now Summit Entertainment has released the first trailer for La La Land, and if you are looking for a break from blockbusters, then don’t worry about that exciting feeling that will course through your veins after watching the trailer. Check it out here below.
The film was originally set for a summer release, but once again, judging by the look of it, it may in fact, have the potential to win some major awards. The project is coming from the guy who did bring us the darling hit Whiplash, which helped J.K. Simmons win an Oscar.
The trailer pretty much speaks for itself. It’s a romance where two lovers finally meet under the stars. Hell, the trailer’s song, “City Of Stars” sung by Gosling, makes a point of it. You can even download the song on iTunes. But the overall feel makes it look like a musical more than just a film about romance.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Gosling and Stone have starred in a film before. The two had some serious chemistry in Crazy, Stupid, Love. They appeared together once again in Gangster Squad. But, that film wasted the pairing given the style-over-substance feel. So we probably shouldn’t get too excited over one trailer. But you can’t blame yourself if you are feeling excited for this. It looks really good.
Starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, J.K. Simmons, Rosemarie DeWitt, and John Legend, La La Land opens on December 2, 2016.
