Ruth Neega can easily be seen as one of the breakout star of the past few years. From Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to AMC’s Preacher, and most recently Warcraft. Now she will appear in a powerful film simply titled Loving from director Jeff Nichols. Nichols is having quite the year himself with Midnight Special being released a couple of months back.

As the title suggests, the film is about love. The movie centers on a real-life couple whose interracial marriage sparked a historic legal battle. It also stars Joel Edgerton, who will play the husband to Neega’s character. Check out the trailer below.

Loving was inspired by the real-life marriage of the Loving family, an interracial couple who spent nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown of Virginia. Eventually they took their fight all the way to the Supreme Court.

The film recently was screened at Cannes, although the film was criticized for being too restrained.

Nick Kroll, Marton Csokas, and Michael Shannon also star. Given the film’s release date, it seems that Focus Features is aiming for some awards. And given the film’s themes and that it is also a historical period drama, there is a good chance that it could earn some nominations. Of course, we will have to wait and see.

Here is the official plot synopsis:

From acclaimed writer/director Jeff Nichols, “Loving” celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving (Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga), who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry – and their love story has become an inspiration to couples ever since.

Loving opens in limited release on November 4 and then expands to a full theatrical release.
