‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Set Photos Reveal ‘Doctor Strange’ Connection

Cameos are common to see in a Marvel Studios film. Sometimes they appear at the end of a standalone film acting as a bridge to connect to future MCU movie and other times they can be silly cameos like Loki transforming into Captain America just for giggles. But the latest photo from the set of Thor: Ragnarok seems to be a little bit strange, with the emphasis on strange. There appears to be a card of some sort that’s either just a silly nod to Doctor Strange or it has a deeper meaning. What could it be, and what are the contents of this card? Check it out here below.

These set photos, which show Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, are unique in that they were authorized and were posted by director Hemsworth, director Taika Waititi, and Daley Pearson.

The photo above could just be Ragnarok director Taika Waititi messing around, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that a large portion of the film would not take place on Earth, but it’s not clear if that is at the start or the end. The “New York” set — which is actually Brisbane, Australia — does confirm that the film will see the Avenger make a return to civilian life, and by Hemsworth’s latest photo on Twitter, Thor will not be alone.

Now this seems to be more along the lines of a joke (not sure if I could trust a man like Loki that well dressed selling me newspapers, Thor is a bit of a different story), but the bigger question is, what does Loki have to do with all of this? He has visited Earth on more than just one occasion, and it sure as hell wasn’t to sell papers with his brother. So what could their reason be as to why they are on Earth again, in less than Asgardian garb? Well, that leads us to our next photo, this time from Daley Pearson, who was in that Comic-Con video of what Thor was doing while Captain America and Iron Man were engaged in battle against each other in Civil War.

In the three photos that he posted, only one really stands out, and that is the one of Thor holding a card that reads “177A Bleecker St.” If you are not already a Marvel fan, then a simple Google search will reveal that that address is Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum. Now it is not clear if Doctor Strange will be in Thor or if what they are filming now is the mid/post-credit scene attached to Doctor Strange, but looking at the photo itself, it seems that Thor (and maybe Loki) are trying to find their way home and the Sorcerer Supreme is the only one who can help them get there. That is speculation, but it’s still fun to theorize what the connection is.

Thor: Ragnarok arrives November 3, 2017.
