Being a kid of the ’90s, I am willing to admit that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers were a big part of my TV watching life. While the teams have changed and those young enough to even member the show got older, interest in the franchise has somewhat declined. But Saban’s new film, Power Rangers, will attempt to reinvigorate that interest that brings back the classic characters from the first iteration with a whole new look.
As we all know, when it comes to these reimaginings comes new designs to the suits, powers, and yes, the zords. So far we’ve seen nothing from those Jurassic-themed mechas that when combined becomes the mighty Megazord, and these newly released posters only offer a small tease. Check out what these posters have to offer and when you can see more of them below.
The posters confirm that there will be a panel for Power Rangers at the New York Comic-Con this October. It will be an hour-long panel held in conjunction with Lionsgate’s other film, John Wick Chapter 2 – which we will have more on later – at the theater in Madison Square Garden, where fans will have an opportunity to participate in a Q&A with the cast and filmmakers.
For those who may not remember, reach ranger received their powers based on a respective beast from a prehistoric era. Jason (Dacre Montgomery), the Red Ranger, piloted the Tyrannosaurus Red; Zack, the Black Ranger, (Ludi Lin) piloted the Mastodon; Trini (Becky G), the Yellow Ranger, piloted the Saber-tooth Tiger; Kimberly (Naomi Scott), the Pink Ranger, piloted the Pterodactyl; and Billy (RJ Cyler), the Blue Ranger, piloted the Triceratops. Each of these zords had a specialty weapon, but become a stronger force when they unite to become the Megazord. These posters offer only a small tease as to what the zords could look like, and it seems obvious they are saving the look of the Megazord for a later time. But based on these teasers, it looks like the designs are wildly different from their predecessors. That may be a good thing if it can connect with those who attend the panel. Of course, Saban and Lionsgate will have something to worry about if it doesn’t connect with them as well. The “Go Go” tagline is a nice touch for those old enough to even remember the theme song.
