Spoilers for Scream Queens

Last week on Scream Queens, we welcomed the Chanels back into pathetic little lives. Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts), Chanel #3 (Billie Lourd), and Chanel #5 (Abigail Breslin) are free from captivity and are enlisted as new medical students in a hospital for “special” rare cases run by none other than Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis). Of course the second the Chanels show up, patients start getting murdered in gruesome ways, like the poor werewolf girl who was beheaded while enjoying a warm bath. You see thirty years earlier on Halloween, doctors at the hospital murdered a sick patient for having the audacity to need treatment during the Halloween party. The victim left behind a grieving wife and an unborn baby”¦ yeah, just like season 1, there’s a total 80s plot behind the season. Unlike last season’s Red Devil Killer sporting the campus mascot, this killer dons a green monster costume, a monster than legend says haunts the swamps surrounding the hospital”¦

This week, on Episode 2.2 “Warts and All,” the police are there to investigate, but as usual on this show they are inept and poor Chanel #5 takes a browbeating from everyone. “The closest she’s come to sex is when a bookshelf fell on her,” says Chanel #3 as I die laughing. Billie Lourd has the best line delivery of anyone on network television. Zayday (Keke Palmer) questions Munsch’s motives for having the hospital in the first place and thinks she might be in on it. Meanwhile, there’s another grossly deformed patient (Colton Haynes) in need of dire assistance.

Chanel and Dr. Brock Holt (John Stamos) go out on a date, but he can’t control his “transplant hand.” She’s strangely okay with his groping, because she misses Chad Radwell (Glen Powell)… and wouldn’t you know it, who shows up to scare her in the hospital wearing a red devil costume”¦ Chad F’n Radwell! I officially want a spinoff of Brock Holt and Chad Radwell trading jabs and competing for Chanel’s affections. There is an unbelievably funny scene involving the two of them trading barbs in the shower.

Zayday and Chamberlain (James Earl) research the hospital’s history to see what Munsch is up to and discover that a year after the patient’s murder, the entire hospital staff was murdered. We get flashbacks featuring Dr. Mike (Jerry O’Connell) and it suddenly dawns on me that he and John Stamos are on the same show”¦ O’Connell is married to Rebecca Romijn (formerly Stamos) now”¦ I guess they’re okay with it, so so am I. Munsch has her own reasons for starting the hospital, but soon gets attacked by the killer. She gets the upper hand but before she can identify the killer, she’s interrupted by Dr. Cassidy Cascade (Taylor Lautner) and Chanel #3.

They go to visit Hester (Lea Michele) Silence of the Lambs style“¦ Lea Michele is a pretty great Anthony Hopkins impression. Speaking of crazies, Chad Radwell hires a private dick named Richard to find out about Brock Holt’s hand and because it couldn’t be more 80s spoof horror, it’s a serial killing squash player’s hand.

Tyler is wheeled away to surgery but neither of the surgeons will be there on account of them going home to have “handsome contest.” When the Chanels run to find him, he’s been murdered by the Green Swamp Monster”¦ another serial killer walks amongst the Chanels.

This show is just so much fun. It may be the most refreshing hour on TV each week. Everyone in the cast is having so much fun, the dialogue is absurdly funny, and they are doing good by horror fans by providing blood and gore all the while referencing the classics. The hospital setting just oozes Halloween 2, and there’s the obvious homages to Silence of the Lambs. My wife, who does not enjoy horror and has never watched this show, happened to be in the room while it was on and found herself laughing at the ridiculous lines and telling me to write quotes from the show down.

Scream Queens returns in two weeks, on Tuesday October 13th at 9:00pm only on FOX.
