The first Jack Reacher was a modest and unexpected hit; in fact, it almost did not get a sequel. But because it went on to gross over $200 million worldwide, Paramount had enough faith in it to push a sequel for it.
Tom Cruise returns to reprise the titular character who makes the rules rather than follows them. Now we get to see more of his take no prisoners attitude in an all new IMAX trailer. Check it out below.
It’s not as though we’ve not seen a character like Jack Reacher before, but Cruise plays that role really well. Other than that, it’s all footage we’ve seen before, with just a few more revealing plot points to grab new audiences. In the film, we see Reacher return to his old investigative unit to prove his innocence of a crime he did not commit. As he begins to find more clues, the investigation unravels into something bigger than he originally expected.
Based on the novel of the same name, the film is directed by Edward Zwick and co-written with Richard Wenk and Marshall Herskovitz.
Also starring is Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Holt McCallany (Fight Club, Three Kings), and Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton, TURN: Washington’s Spies).
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) returns with his particular brand of justice in the highly anticipated sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Major Susan Turner (Cobie Smulders) is the Army Major who heads Reacher’s old investigative unit. She is arrested for Treason and knowing that she is innocent, Reacher must break her out of prison and uncover the truth behind a major government conspiracy in order to clear their names and save their lives. On the run as fugitives from the law, Reacher uncovers a potential secret from his past that could change his life forever.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back opens in theaters and IMAX on October 21, 2016.
