The first teaser trailer for Disney”¢Pixar’s Cars 3 was released back in November, and it was just a little bit depressing, especially if you’re a fan of the series and Lightning McQueen.
Now an extended look version of that trailer has been released. It starts off with the same depressing sequence we saw in the teaser, and is followed by about 40 seconds of new footage that we haven’t seen before.
You can check out the new trailer below, along with some recently released character videos for Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo), and Jackson Storm (Armie Hammer).
SYNOPSIS:
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
From this description and watching the trailer below, you can see that the movie has a a bit of a Rocky sequel vibe going. We shall see if using that recipe pays off for the trilogy-maker later this year when it arrives. It doesn’t have a high bar to surpass after Cars 2, one of Pixar’s rare misses. The only Pixar movie, in fact, that I’ve personally not enjoyed watching. There are some I like a lot more than others, and a couple I’ve not yet seen, but only the one left me truly disappointed.
Cars 3 is set to be released in theaters on June 16th. Brian Fee, who was a storyboard artist on Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, and Cars 2, makes his directorial debut on the movie. The great John Lasseter (Toy Story, A Bug’s Life) directed the first two movies and remains an executive producer while working on his current project, Toy Story 4.
