Christmas is finally behind us, and so are all the holiday-centric movies. So it wouldn’t be much of a November or December release without a movie involving Christmas or Santa Clause. And it looks like we will be getting one of those from Disney soon, with none other than Anna Kendrick starring as the daughter of Santa Claus.
The currently untitled Disney Santa Claus movie, under the working title Nicole, comes from Miss Congeniality scribe Marc Lawrence, who will also direct. Kendrick is in talks to play Santa Claus’s daughter who is forced to take over the family business after her father decides to retire and her brother gets cold feet on the big night. More on the story below.
Lawrence’s writing credits include Life with Mikey, Forces of Nature, The Out-of-Towners remake, Miss Congeniality, and its sequel Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous. He also directed Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics, Did You Hear About the Morgans?, and The Rewrite.
Susanne Todd will produce.
Kendrick is coming off a very busy year having starred in the comedy-drama The Hollars, the dated comedy How To Get A Job, and the semi-romantic comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. She also co-starred alongside Ben Affleck in the intense drama The Accountant, and most recently can be heard singing alongside Justin Timberlake in the animated musical Trolls. She can next be seen in Table 19, which has completed filming and is scheduled to be released on March 3rd, and the next movie in the Pitch Perfect franchise, Pitch Perfect 3.
No release or start date has been set for the holiday movie, but considering Pitch Perfect 3 is in pre-production and set for a Christmas release, currently scheduled for December 22, 2017, expect Nicole to start shooting sometime next year for a winter holiday release.
We’ll keep you up-to-date on any developments on the movie when they come in.
