Game of Thrones Season 6 Images #22

It’s probably safe to say that even though we know most or all of the heroic characters, and some of the surviving evil ones too, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who will have some sort of role in two of the upcoming Avengers films, Avengers: Infinity War and the currently untitled Avengers 4. While the plot of the films are still very much under wraps, we can pretty much guess that Thanos (Josh Brolin) has finally collected most or all of the Infinity Stones to possibly destroy the universe to win Death’s heart.

Again that is just pure speculation, but as with any sequel, there are bound to be new characters. And it just so happens that Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) will be playing one of these new characters. More on the story below.

Variety was the first to report on the news. While they could not provide any details as to who the actor will be playing, fans are throwing a few guesses into the hat. But before we can get to that, let’s get into the details of the casting.

The report says that since Game of Thrones has wrapped production on season 7, after moving from a summer shoot to a fall shoot, it frees up Dinklage’s schedule to be in the two-part ensemble film, which is expected to begin lensing early summer. The two Avengers films will shoot back-to-back, and Dinklage is expected to appear in both films. Of course, there will also be a chance that the cast will be needed for reshoots, but let’s get to that if it happens.

Dinklage’s role is unknown at this time, but some are guessing that he could play the role of Pip the Troll, at least according to Deadpool creator Robert Liefled (via /Film):

Here’s a brief character description from Wikipedia:

Pip was once Prince Gofern of the planet Laxidazia, in the Dolenz System, in the Milky Way Galaxy. He was originally an alien of the Laxidazian race who enjoyed painting pictures of the night sky. Pip became physically and psychologically mutated into a morally degenerate, stunted, satyr-like form known as a “troll” during a bout of drunkenness brought on by a mutagenic hallucinogenic ale. Like all Laxidazian trolls, Pip has four digits (including opposable thumb) on each hand, hooflike feet, and large pointed ears; apparently, normal Laxidazians are nearly identical to Earth humans. After his transformation, his people, also sick of his lewd, lecherous, and hedonistic behavior, strip him of his office and rank. He stows away on a spaceship and continues his life of debauchery. Pip began his habit of dressing in a pair of maroon, ripped pants and nothing else.

Pip eventually went on adventures with Adam Warlock after his home planet is invaded by Universal Church of Truth. Their adventures would eventually lead them to cross paths with Thanos, who destroys Pip’s mind. Warlock was able to save his soul though by absorbing it into the Soul Stone (will probably be called something else in Thor: Ragnarok or some other MCU film). Pip would also make an appearance in the “Infinity Watch” and “Infinity Crusade” story arcs.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Dinklage has appeared in a Marvel film. He played Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Fans have also been calling on him to play MODOK, Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing and creation of A.I.M. However, that never happened since A.I.M. was just a front for nefarious purposes in Iron Man 3. But who knows, there is a chance that MODOK could appear in the film, just don’t hold your breath. And again, the idea of him playing Pip is unconfirmed.

It should be fun to see what happens as we get closer to the start date.

Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to hit theaters on May 4, 2018, with Avengers 4 slated for a May 3, 2019 release.
