At long last another trailer for the Power Rangers has arrived. It was beginning to look like the first trailer was the only one we were going to get considering that it’s January and the film is going to be released in March.
As with all new trailers, there’s also brand new footage. This time we finally get to see the five title heroes in their morphed up forms, and a glimpse of the five new zords and their unified Megazord form. Plus our very first look at Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Bill Hader as Alpha 5. Check it out below.
Those who were not part of the ’90s generation may not be overly familiar with the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, but the series consisted of five teenagers with attitude (but not trouble makers) who were summoned by the might Zordon and endowed with five power coins that gave them the ability to morph into powerful warriors and fight the forces of evil. Their stories and villains would change throughout the years, but the premise pretty much stayed the same.
But director Dean Israelite‘s new film doesn’t quite share the same production value as their TV predecessors. No more zippers on the backs of suits, the action sequences seem more intense, Zordon looks like one of those press your face against a bunch of nails gag, and Hader will be there as Alpha 5 to give the film some laughs. It should be interesting to see if the rumors of a sixth power coin in Rita’s (Elizabeth Banks) wand is true.
Not sure what fans of the original will make of this, considering it has a more contemporary feel, with the use of Kanye West’s “Power” and a joke about the rangers’ colors.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
The film stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason, Ludi Lin as Zack, RJ Cyler as Billy, Becky G as Trini, and Naomi Scott as Kimberly.
Power Rangers opens in theaters on March 24, 2017.
