Sling TV, the cord-cutting, no-contract, live TV and VOD service is turning two years old this winter. And like a Hobbit, they’re giving friends (customers), both new and old, some birthday presents to celebrate.
So the question is: Are you a Sling Blue or Sling Orange subscriber? If so, you’re in luck! A free weekend of HBO access begins today.
Sling TV has long been able to integrate subscribers’ HBO Now subscriptions into its service but, for those who don’t use HBO Now, this week and this weekend (today, February 16th through Monday, February 20th), they’re allowing access to HBO Now content for free.
This preview isn’t by accident: HBO is launching two new series premiers this week and they’re working with Sling TV to promote the new content in a gambit to attract more subscribers. Interestingly enough, the two new shows feature recognizable Hollywood heavy hitters on the little screen. Big Little Lies features Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Shailene Woodley. Crashing, while headlining newer talent, is brought to the screen via one of Hollywood’s Comical Dukes, Judd Apatow.
While the content being promoted with this free HBO preview on Sling TV is new, users partaking of the service aren’t limited to it. If you’ve ever wanted to binge recently produced and highly decorated series like Game of Thrones or Veep, but haven’t wanted to subscribe to HBO Now, then clear your calendar for the rest of this week.
Sling TV says that the birthday gifts don’t end with this HBO Now preview. According to their press release we should be seeing s STARZ preview very soon, which means we could see a lot of Outlander fans cuffing their kilts and clearing their calendars for that network’s critically acclaimed series.
Sling TV’s press release can be found on their blog here.
