Okay, so confession time. I am not a fan of the Charmed franchise, best known for the television series which ran from 1998 to 2006 on The WB (before it eventually became The CW). I tried to like it but it wasn’t really my cup of tea, so to speak. My wife on the other hand, loved the TV series and every single novel that I could find that featured these witches. But as it holds such a special place in her heart, I decided to show it some love here. Without further ado, I would like to introduce you to Charmed: A Thousand Deaths #1 from Dynamite Entertainment.
Known as the Charmed Ones, our sisters three are witches of the first order. Based in San Francisco, they protect the world from all things evil and demonic; all the while trying to live out semi-normal lives. Piper, Phoebe, and Paige are all snarky and sarcastic which makes it all a little less frightening and a bit more humorous.
Each is powerful in her own right but together they are greater than even they know. But as fiends usually do, there is much plotting to destroy our guardians and everything they stand for. In this issue we see a foiled attempt to do just that as the witches drive the demons back to Hell. However, a new player has come along to unite the evil lurking in the shadows and destroy the Charmed Ones once and for all. Will he be successful where all others have failed or is he just another upstart devil trying to make a name for himself? Only time will tell. Well, that or maybe issue number two.
