The passing of Carrie Fisher was a profound loss. Sure she was Princess Leia to all of us, but she was also a director, a screenwriter, and an inspiration to those who are going through personal struggles. So it makes it that much more harder to come to grips with as Star Wars Celebration is being held without her.
But to honor her memory, the convention released a very emotional tribute that compiles footage from on the set, interviews, and co-stars talking about what it was like to be with her. You can check out the video below.
Fisher was probably one of the most upfront people who had no filter. But she clearly used that to her advantage. Mixing it with smarts and wit, she was always funny and aware, and never afraid to hold anything back, as noted by the many interviews – some of which you will see in the video. I never had to chance to interview her, but when I attended the Star Wars: The Force Awakens press conference she was every bit as funny as she was smart. She knew what Princess Leia had done for girl power, and she was clearly proud to lay the groundwork for that movement.
From the way she danced with Daisy Ridley, to making out with a fan during a previous Star Wars Celebration event, to her co-stars being amazed that she could still recite lines from the script of the original movie, A New Hope. Fisher was not like anyone else.
There is a very brief clip of her and director Rian Johnson in a behind-the-scenes shot for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and while it won’t reveal anything huge, it is one of the last moments we will see of her outside her role as Leia.
