For those who haven’t watched any of Netflix’s solo Marvel outings, let’s do a little roll call. There’s “The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen,” aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox). After that it’s the smart-ass detective otherwise known as Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), the righteous ex-con. Then there’s the “Hero of Harlem,” or who we know as Luke Cage (Mike Colter). Finally, there’s the kid with a glowing fist aka Iron Fist (Finn Jones). These otherwise heroes of New York City have been defending the streets from one threat or another, and now after two years of build up, the pay off is finally coming to Netflix this summer in The Defenders.
The first trailer for the Marvel superhero ensemble has finally arrived. Together with the help of some friends like Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), and Stick (Scott Glenn), they will protect their streets from the mysterious Hand and a new villain played by Sigourney Weaver. Check out the trailer below.
The whole roll call thing is a pretty nice nod to the Avengers, and the fact that they don’t work well together at first is not surprising at all. The clashing of different personalities and egos is always going to be a part of these ensembles. But what draws them all together, besides the Claire Temple connection, is the fact that they have a common enemy, The Hand. And now we may know who controls them. Weaver plays Alexandra. But don’t let her looks fool you, there’s a reason why she’s the one who makes the threats against four superheroes. We also get our first look at Elektra (Elodie Yung), though her role in all of this is still shrouded in mystery.
Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), and Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing) all return to reprise their respective roles.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones), a quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
All eight episodes of The Defenders will debut exclusively on Netflix on August 18, 2017 at 12:01am PT.
