As the WB panel was quickly coming to a close, the DCEU portion welcomed Ben Affleck, Ezra Miller, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa. As a part of the Justice League, the actors play Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Aquaman, respectively. But there’s still no sight of Henry Cavill, who has played Superman for two DCEU films. A recently released poster hinted at his return when Superman’s emblem appeared as a part of the film’s tagline.
The highlight of any panel of course is the footage, and WB delivered here. A huge 4-minute sneak peek trailer for the movie was shown, and then released online for the world to see. You can find it below along with a new poster.
Of course, there is some recent controversy surrounding Affleck, as rumors about him wanting to leave the Batman continue to swirl. But that’s when he told everyone “Let me be clear. Batman is the greatest fucking part in the world. I am thrilled to do it.” Is he just saying that or is he really committed to playing the character for as long as possible? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, Gadot sang Wonder Woman‘s praises and thanked everyone for making the film such a hit. After the introductions, the panel went straight to Justice League.
Fisher and Miller explain how their characters are probably the most inexperienced on the Justice League considering that they are the youngest and got their powers through accidents. The problem with Aquaman is he is a lot like Batman in terms of not working well in teams. And like his character in the comics, he doesn’t exactly trust the surface dwellers.
If you watched the trailer that was released a few months back, you’d recognize Wonder Woman taking down a few bandits. Well, the trailer starts off with that. When one of them pistol whips her in the back of the head, she turns to her assailant unimpressed and takes down the whole group. We then see her in her day job where she is asked what she did for the weekend, and she responds “nothing much.”
Then there are a few quick shots of a world post-Superman’s death. Crime has gone up, and apparently, Batman has gone missing. We see Commissioner Gordan flip the switch to the Batsignal, and Wonder Woman worried if the age of heroes can come back, to which Batman says “it has to.”
The trailer then takes us to Themyscira, where Steppenwolf appears right in front of a mantle where one of the Mother Boxes is placed. There is a voiceover, I assume it’s Steppenwolf, saying how there are no protectors here, no lanterns, no Kryptonians, and other various DC heroes. That’s when the trailer transitions to Alfred saying he longs for the day where the only threat was a wind-up exploding penguin.
It’s pretty much all in the trailer. So let’s get into the Q&A portion of the panel.
One of the questions was if they could fight a member of the Suicide Squad, who would it be. Momoa responded with Captain Boomerang, while Gadot said she’d fight Harley Quinn.
Things got hilariously dark when a little kid asked about Superman’s whereabouts, to which Momoa broke his heart by saying “I don’t know if your parents told you, but Superman is dead!” But Gadot was there to give him a sense of relief when he assured Superman fans that they would be pleased with Justice League.
Each of them then recalled working on the set. Fisher said he was happy to work with Joss Whedon, who now assumes the role of director after Zack Snyder had to step down to address a family tragedy. For Momoa, he recalled being on the set with his kids and the Batmobile was there.
One of the final questions of the panel had a fan ask who the group of underwater men were in the first trailer. While you’d think Momoa would be tight-lipped about it, he said it was the Ocean Master’s army.
