John Carpenter's Tales of Science Fiction James Ninness

Last Wednesday, Storm King Comics released the first book in their new monthly anthology series, Tales of Science Fiction Vol 1. The series is the brainchild of horror master John Carpenter and his wife and collaborator Sandy King Carpenter who started Storm King Comics several years ago. The first book in the series is “Vault” by writer James Ninness, a space thriller combining elements of Aliens and Event Horizon. The “Vault” story will run three issues before giving way to a new story.

You can read my review here, and meet the creative team, including James Ninness, below. Issue #1 is available now.

Creators:

Co-Creator John Carpenter needs no introduction, but we’ll give him one anyway. When he’s not working on super secret new projects he’s happiest with his family and any keyboard he can find. John is a co-creator on the new Tales of Science Fiction series from Storm King. Stay up-to-date on everything related to John at JohnCarpenter.com.

Co-Creator Sandy King has been John’s producer, wife, and partner in crime for decades, working with him on projects like Big Trouble in Little China and They Live, not to mention a ton of John-free projects. Sandy brings her wealth of film experience to comics as a writer, editor, and publisher. Sandy is also a co-creator on the new Tales of Science Fiction series. Learn a bit more about Sandy’s career at Storm King Productions

Vault Created & Written by:

James Ninness writes comic books, short stories, and other fun stuff. After he got his degree in English: Creative Writing from Cal State University Long Beach in 2007, he married the love of his life, made some babies, and adopted some dogs. If, for whatever reason, you were to ask James what his patronus is, he would reply, “Gene Hackman.” His wordsmithery goes far beyond our titles and we encourage you to check out his website: www.jamesninness.com.

Pencils & Inks by:

Andres Esparza is a newly engaged (congrats, Andres!), Mexican comic book and concept artist born, raised, and working in Monterrey, México. He loves his family, videogames, grunge/metal rock, and comics. Getting to work on everything from Heavy Metal to Zenescope, and now on John Carpenter’s in-house comic brand is his dream come true.

Colored by:

Sergio Martinez is a Mexican visual artist with experience in almost everything related from videogames to animation (IDW and Bioware to name a couple). Somehow he still finds time to enjoy numerous pop culture and artsy fartsy pursuits as an avid comics, arts and videogame fan.

Lettered by:

Janice Chiang is a comic pioneer as one of the first female letterers in the industry. From hand-lettering to digital, she has forged the way for countless of female comic artists. Janice works with publishers old (Marvel) and new (CMX Manga/Wildstorm). With her kind and forthright nature, Janice has built a loyal family within the comic community. Everyone has met her at one time or another. Everyone who runs into her says the same thing: “Oh my god, she’s done so much, and she’s so nice!”

Vault #1 Cover Art by:

Nick Percival is a father of three girls, an award-winning artist whose original work LEGENDS: The Enchanted is on its way to be a feature film, and an avid fan of everything horror. His dark art hides a secret positivity. He gives off an infectious, overwhelming vibe that anything is possible. Check him out at www.nickpercival.com.

John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction Vault #2 will be out August 29th, and Vault #3 will be released September 26th.
