In my world, as I’m sure it is in yours, when someone drops an LOL into a text or tweet, it is often because they have nothing else to say and want to let you know they saw it. In Sh*t My President Says: The Illustrated Tweets Of Donald J. Trump, however, I absolutely laughed out loud. Maybe it was the tweets or maybe it was the hilarious illustrations from author Shannon Wheeler. But whatever it was, it had me in stitches.

Taking a poke at the man who holds what is arguably the most powerful position in the free world is not something just any creator might do, but Wheeler is renowned for his political commentary and artwork. This graphic novel takes the man’s public comments and applies a bit of pressure. The artist doesn’t attack him on any level, but approaches the messages as if they were written by a toddler with narcissistic tendencies. He expounds and compares, mocks and parodies, all with the intent of understanding Trump’s perspective and that of his supporters.

This certainly will not sit well with everyone, but to be fair, that was never the point. It is a context piece that is meant to engage the reader, for good or ill. He is the current President, whether we like it or not. I would recommend this to everyone, no matter what their political leanings. The tweets are revealing and often contradictory, but it is the art that seals it for me. The implications are often dire, but the attached illustrations seem to bring a level of humor that might not have been there otherwise.

FDR had radio. JFK had TV. Trump has Twitter.
Eisner Award-winning cartoonist Shannon Wheeler tackles the 140-character president. For the first time, these revealing snapshots of the world’s most powerful man are collected, curated, and brought to memorable new life as cartoons.

Some people are saying, I don’t know, you tell me, but a lot of people are saying this is the greatest book of the year. This guy, Shannon Wheeler, he draws these cartoons for the New Yorker, MAD, the Onion “” he’s very, very, good, okay? Now he’s illustrated the most incredible tweets. Wow! You won’t believe what he does with these tweets. I mean, these tweets changed the world, folks. It’s true! It’s very true. EVERYONE is going to want this book “” even the haters and losers (Sad!).

In Sh*t My President Says, Donald Trump’s most revealing tweets are transformed into razor-sharp cartoons, offering a subversive and illuminating insight into the mind of the most divisive political figure of our time. Whether you love him or hate him, this take on Trump will help you come to grips with the man and his ideas thanks to Wheeler’s signature mix of slapstick and sophistication.
