Nearly a decade after the release of The Strangers back in 2008, a sequel titled The Strangers: Prey at Night is on the way early next year.
Though the movie is technically a sequel to the first movie, which starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple at a secluded summer home being terrorized by masked intruders, it’s described as “inspired by” the 2008 film. In it, a family staying with relatives at a mobile home park find themselves dealing with those same masked intruders.
An official teaser trailer for The Strangers: Prey at Night has been released, and can be viewed below.
Here’s a brief description of the movie:
A family’s road trip takes a dangerous turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park to stay with some relatives and find it mysteriously deserted. Under the cover of darkness, three masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test the family’s every limit as they struggle to survive. Johannes Roberts directs this horror film inspired by the 2008 smash hit THE STRANGERS.
Starring in the movie is Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson, Bailee Madison, and Lewis Pullman. It’s directed by Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door, 47 Meters Down), with the screenplay worked on by both Bryan Bertino, who wrote and directed the original movie, and Ben Ketai, who wrote The Forest and 30 Days of Night: Dark Days and even directed some of the live-action episodes of the excellent 2016 video game Quantum Break.
I have no idea how good or bad the final product will be, but I must say, anyone who can find a way to effectively incorporate Tiffany’s ’80s cover of Tommy James and the Shondells’ “I Think We’re Alone Now” into their horror flick is all right in my book.
The Strangers: Prey at Night is set to be released on March 9, 2018.
