Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War and the still-untitled Avengers 4 will mark the end of the current MCU, but will also usher in a new beginning for it. As the shared universe expands, so do their titles, with the Marvel Studios looking to other heroes in upcoming films Black Panther and Captain Marvel to take it to places fans could never have dreamed of. But the two films also mean we will have to say goodbye to some of the actors who have donned their suits before the first Avengers film.

We still don’t know what the future has in store for these characters. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will supposedly be an epilogue of sorts by acting as the first film for Phase 4 of the MCU, but also be the end for that group. Still Disney and Marvel have said they have their plans for Marvel mapped out for the foreseeable future. If you count 20 years as foreseeable. This means we have to look forward to possible new reboots, but also more films based on female characters and people of color.

In Vanity Fair’s latest piece, they cover what the future holds for Marvel, and how they plan to continue to maintain their successful streak while also adapting to the ever-changing times. Check out their full story plus new photos from their exclusive photoshoot below.

While at the D23 Expo earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger came out to talk about the company’s flagship superhero studio. He told the crowd that they had the rights to over 7,000 characters, which gave us a slight idea of where the MCU could go. This, of course, was not limited to geographics, time, and the cosmos. Here’s what he told Vanity Fair:

“We’re looking for worlds that are completely separate””geographically or in time””from the worlds that we’ve already visited,” Iger explained.

What those places and time-periods could be is very unclear; however, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said Marvel has at least another 20 films planned. So it’s safe to say they know what they are doing. Of course, that doesn’t mean he will talk about what those 20 films are or what they could be about. Still, it’s nice to know that they’ve got a goal, and more goals to come.

“22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before””intentionally,” Feige said.

But there is one thing that Feige said Avengers 4 will bring: a “finale.” The piece speculates that this could mean the end of many of our beloved characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, and many more – or at least for the actors whose contracts are expiring after Avengers 4. But even though it may be an end for some of them, Feige said we will notice a change between Phase 3 and whatever happens after it, and that we should be excited for it.

“There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting,” Feige teased.

As for the photos, they stay true to Vanity Fair’s style, so don’t expect anything to spoilerly from them. However, if you want to have a look at the suits for some of the upcoming films like Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, then you might want to have a look at them. Be sure to check out all the photos over at Vanity Fair.

Black Panther opens on February 16, 2018, with Avengers: Infinity War hitting theaters on May 4, 2018, and Ant-Man and Wasp stings on July 6, 2018. Avengers 4 brings an end to the current Marvel universe on May 3, 2019.
