Hugh Jackman ‘Dundee’ Clip Makes Us Want To Believe That This Is A Real Movie

Hugh Jackman Dundee

Last week, a series of trailers and clips promoting Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home debuted. Though trailers for reboots are not out of the ordinary, it’s who they chose to star as the title character that had quite a few people vexed. It was Danny McBride who would say Crocodile Dundee’s signature phrase: “That’s not a knife. Now that’s a knife.” Many couldn’t take the trailer seriously considering McBride said it in such a broken Australian accent. However, the trailer was cut in such a way, it almost seemed like it was real.

To add further to the confusion, another trailer was released. This time it was with Australian tourism ambassador Chris Hemsworth. That slight nod may have given us a clue as to whether or not these trailers could be taken seriously. Then a report said these trailers were made by the Australian Tourism Board. No one could confirm this, giving us some sliver of hope that this could be real.

Now even more clips have been released, and one of them has yet another Australian actor on board. Hugh Jackman appears in one of the following clips, and you bet he has something to say about bringing back a famous Australian movie without one the nation’s biggest stars. Check it out below.

The first Dundee clip sees McBride and Hemsworth somewhere in the Australian Outback. While on their journey to an unknown destination, the two come across a water buffalo. The stubborn beast refuses to move, so McBride tries to move it using his mystical Outback powers by speaking to it with his mind. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned, and Hemsworth suggests that they simply go around the buffalo.

It’s a pretty straightforward clip. Of course, the report that said these trailers as for tourism kind of took the fun out of the mystery behind these clips. That being said, more of these clips will probably be released until they confirm what it is actually for.

Now, the Jackman clip seems to hint at the fact that this is for tourism. McBride and Hemsworth are nowhere to be found, but the sharply dressed The Greatest Showman actor appears to be in some diplomatic room with an Australian flag in the background. The actor appears to be in on the “joke” as he posted the clip on his official Twitter account. But it is what he says in that clip that makes it feel like this is more for tourism than it is for an actual movie.

In the clip, Jackman clarifies what a wallaby and a kangaroo are. He then calls the person on the phone a “wanker” after he hangs up, and then he follows that up by asking someone off-screen, “How’s the surf?” That leads me to believe we will see yet another famous Australian answering that question. Just some fun speculation on my part.

If the Australian Tourism Board has already gone so far to create such an elaborate campaign, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a short film already made. Or maybe they have enough for a full-length feature. Using someone like McBride to play the estranged son of Dundee would be an ingenious way to draw in Americans to visit Australia. We’ll just have to see if any more clips show up.
