Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the first teaser trailer for Venom, their long-awaited Spider-Man spinoff starring Tom Hardy in the title role.
The trailer runs nearly one and a half minutes in length but definitely is a teaser, holding back on showing too much. You can check out the trailer along with a recently released poster below.
The teaser is a continuation of that not so exciting first image of Hardy we saw last month in terms of not actually showing Venom, but we do at least get our first good looks at the movie and some of the characters to give us a better feel for what to expect.
And one can’t really blame Sony for holding off on the big reveal. One of the most significant factors in how well this movie could possibly fare at the box office is how Venom looks. If the look is off or cartoony or just plain bad, it could do significant damage to the final product and how well it does financially. Always one of the trickier aspects to making a movie based on a beloved comic book character.
There isn’t even an official synopsis for the spinoff yet, believe it or not, so this is all we have to go on at the moment.
Starring alongside Hardy is Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott. The movie is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad).

Venom is currently scheduled for an October 5th release date.
