A24 has released a second official trailer for Ari Aster‘s horror film Hereditary.
The film stars Toni Collette as a mother who discovers that her family heritage holds sinister dark secrets. And all of that is about to unravel when her mother, the matriarch of the family, passes away. Check out the new trailer below.
Hereditary made its film debut at the Sundance Film Festival, which was followed by SXSW, earlier this year. And although it was previewed at the same time with A Quiet Place at SXSW, critics are already saying that Aster’s film is on the same level of unnerving creepiness as John Krasinski’s film.
The film appears to be an unconventional horror that draws its inspiration from the drama and the sinister terror that shrouds this family like a haunting specter. It looks creepy and builds upon that by setting up the impending nightmares you will probably have later that night.
Also starring in the film is Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, and Milly Shapiro.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.
