The Teen Titans went from a loosely dark and gritty narrative animated series to a full-on goofy self-deprecating show. Its new format is full of pop culture references and self-jabs, which makes it entertaining enough to give it its own film.
Now the second trailer for Teen Titans GO! to the Movies has been released, and it has more of those jokes, plus a not-so-new voice joining the cast. Check it out, below.
In the film, Robin (Scott Menville), Starfire (Hynden Walch), Raven (Tara Strong), Cyborg (Khary Payton), and Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) try to make a name for themselves in Hollywood when they see that studios are making movies about other heroes. But despite their valiant (but very misguided) efforts, no one wants to make a movie about them. So they take it upon themselves to face a real villain so that they can be taken seriously.
This film will go out of its way to troll not only themselves but other films as well. It isn’t afraid to take a few swipes at the easy Green Lantern, and also makes a point to confuse Slade (Will Arnett) with Deadpool. In fact, the entire televised series is just a bunch of riffs on pop culture, so this is just a cinematic expansion of that.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
“When the Teen Titans go to the big screen, they go big! “Teen Titans GO! to the Movies” finds our egocentric, wildly satirical Super Heroes in their first feature film extravaganza””a fresh, gleefully clever, kid-appropriately crass and tongue-in-cheek play on the super hero genre, complete with musical numbers.
It seems to the Teens that all the major super heroes out there are starring in their own movies””everyone but the Teen Titans, that is! But de facto leader Robin is determined to remedy the situation, and be seen as a star instead of a sidekick. If only they could get the hottest Hollywood film director to notice them. With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream. But when the group is radically misdirected by a seriously Super-Villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry. The team finds their friendship and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line!”
Teen Titans GO! to the Movies also features the voices of Kristen Bell, Nicolas Cage, Halsey, Lil Yachty, and Jimmy Kimmel. Written and directed by Aaron Horvath, co-directed by Peter Rida Michail, and co-written by Michael Jelenic, it opens in theaters on July 27, 2018.
