Fans of Zombieland have been wanting a Zombieland 2 since the original first arrived. And if everything goes well, they may just have it in 2019. Exactly 10 years after the first movie’s release.
Writer Paul Wernick, who penned the screenplay for the original with Rhett Reese, recently offered an update on the long-awaited sequel. And while he could make no official announcements, he does sound confident that we’ll finally be seeing the movie soon.
Continue below to see what he had to say.
Wernick offered the update to Vulture, saying:
“We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2. The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release. With the original cast, by the way.”
And just to add a little excitement to his words, especially to those who have trouble believing anything when it comes to Zombieland 2, Wernick added that there’s more to this news that can’t be revealed just yet:
“We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment, but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon.”
After penning the original Zombieland, Wernick and Reese moved on to titles like Deadpool and its soon to be released sequel, Life, and the new Clue movie, all of which star Ryan Reynolds. They also wrote the script for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, worked on an earlier draft for the adaptation of Cowboy Ninja Viking starring Chris Pratt (and are still attached to the project as producers), and penned the script for the upcoming Michael Bay title 6 Underground.
