Sure, Hotel Artemis may have the same aesthetics as a John Wick – the exclusivity, the rules of the hospital, the high-priced killers – but it still looks like a whole lot of fun.
There is a new red band trailer for the film that ups the violence and bad language. But I can’t be sure it will be enough to get out of John Wick‘s shadow. If anything the electric cast should be enough to get us interested in watching it. Check out the trailer below.
In the film, Jodie Foster plays The Nurse, the person who oversees a secret hospital for criminals in Los Angeles called Hotel Artemis. When a bank robber, Waikiki (Sterling K. Brown), brings his injured brother, Honolulu (Brian Tyree Henry), to the hotel, they bring back some major trouble. That’s because The Wolf King (Jeff Goldblum) believes that the two are in possession of a high-priced item, and he wants it back. Even if that means breaking into the hospital, and breaking its number one rule: no killing.
Of course, there are a cast of other crazy killers who are in the building. There’s Acapulco (Charlie Day), an arms dealer; Nice (Sofia Boutella), a contract killer; and Everest (Dave Bautista), the orderly. Zachary Quinto, Kenneth Choi, Jenny Slate, and Josh Tillman round out the cast.
This doesn’t feel like it deserves the red band mark, but there is plenty of profanity and violence to go around to tell us that it will be rated R.
Here’s the official premise:
Set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, Hotel Artemis stars Jodie Foster as The Nurse, who runs a secret, members-only hospital for criminals. The rest of the all-star cast that includes Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) as Waikiki, Sofia Boutella (The Mummy) as Nice, Jeff Goldblum (Thor: Ragnarok) as The Wolf King/Niagara, Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) as Honolulu, Jenny Slate (Zootopia) as Morgan, Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) as Ilya, Charlie Day (Pacific Rim) as Acapulco, and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Everest.
Written and directed by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3), Hotel Artemis is open for business on June 8, 2018.
