Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw
Director: David Leitch
Writer: Chris Morgan, Drew Pearce
Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Helen Mirren
Distributor: Universal Pictures
Rated PG-13| Minutes: 136
Release Date: Aug 2, 2019

I am probably not the right person to be reviewing a film from the Fast & Furious franchise. The 2001 original did so little for me that I ignored all the following sequels, even after Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson joined the party in 2011’s Fast Five. The franchise was originally built on a criminal underworld of car racing then evolved into a globetrotting Bond-esque stunt show on steroids forgoing logic, gravity, and physics for utterly ridiculous action set pieces and larger than life actors and characters. Despite not being a fan of the series, I felt compelled to see the spinoff film Hobbs and Shaw due to the undeniable chemistry of the two leads and a vibe that reminded me of some of my favorite silly action films of the 1980s, namely Commando and Tango & Cash.

‘Hotel Artemis’ Red Band Trailer: Killers, Bank Robbers, An Angry Orderly, and Jeff Goldblum

Hotel Artemis

Sure, Hotel Artemis may have the same aesthetics as a John Wick – the exclusivity, the rules of the hospital, the high-priced killers – but it still looks like a whole lot of fun.

There is a new red band trailer for the film that ups the violence and bad language. But I can’t be sure it will be enough to get out of John Wick‘s shadow. If anything the electric cast should be enough to get us interested in watching it. Check out the trailer below.

Yes, Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Star Trek’ Movie Is R-Rated

Star Trek Logo CBS

Oh, you didn’t think Quentin Tarantino pitching an idea for a new Star Trek movie to J.J. Abrams that he might end up directing couldn’t get any stranger? Sit with me for a moment, my friends. Here, I made you some nice cocoa. Marshmallows are there on the table if you like. Careful now, it’s a bit hot.

Everything about this was unexpected, of course. But one of the things that made it especially surprising was the part about Tarantino possibly directing. Not only has he never made a big blockbuster type movie—he’s only made eight movies total with a ninth on the way, and there’s been whispers of him potentially retiring from filmmaking after his 10th—but each and every one of his films has been R-rated. Star Trek movies, as you’re likely aware, are not R-rated.

But never fear, Tarantino fans. As it turns out, even Star Trek is R-rated when it comes from Quentin. In fact, it was one of his requirements.

Ivan Reitman Says ‘Ghostbusters’ Spinoff Rumors “Just Noise”

Ivan Reitman

Recently screenwriter Drew Pearce opened up about laying out the groundwork for a possible mixed gendered Ghostbusters. The Iron Man 3 scribe confirmed that if Sony were to follow through on his Ghostbusters “bible” it would take place in the same universe as the one Paul Feig is directing now. Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt are among the frontrunners to star in the film, with hopes that Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) will direct.

At first it looked like the film wasn’t even going to happen, with Tatum’s people saying that they’re “not doing that any more,” and Pratt revealing in an interview that such talks were BS. So Pearce’s quotes gave us slight hope that the film is still on.

Now Ivan Reitman, the director of the first two Ghostbusters and a producer of Feig’s reboot, has come out to address these rumors saying that Feig’s is the only new movie in the franchise they are currently working on, and that anything else is just noise. Check out his full quote below.
