Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, a crime film set in Los Angeles reportedly around the time of the 1969 Manson Family murders, is currently in production, and slowly the cast are sending out their headshots from the film via social media. We saw our first look at Leonardo DiCaprio as actor Rick Dalton and Brad Pitt as his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth. Now we are getting our first look at Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate, the pregnant actress wife of director Roman Polanski, who was one of the Manson murder victims.
Check out the photo of Robbie here below.
Robbie posted the photo of herself as Tate in 1960’s attire — black long-sleeved turtleneck sweater, a white miniskirt, and white go-go boots — leaning up against a yellow sliding door with the caption: First Look. #OnceUponATimeInHollywood @onceinhollywood.
At the time of her murder, Tate was only two weeks away from her due date. In this first-look photo, Robbie’s character is not visibly pregnant. Tarantino has said that the film is not specifically about the murders.
Written and directed by Tarantino, Sony Pictures has scheduled the film for a July 26, 2019 theatrical release, which comes right before the 50th anniversary of Tate murder, which took place on at the 26-year-old actress’s Beverly Hills home on August 9, 1969 by members of the Manson Family, followers of cult leader Charles Manson. (The studio moved it from its original date, which was on the actual anniversary.) The film is described as “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood” and Tarantino has said that it will be similar to how his Pulp Fiction was, though he hasn’t elaborated on that.
In addition to Pitt, DiCaprio, and Robbie, the film also stars Dakota Fanning, James Marsden, Timothy Olyphant, Emile Hirsch, Damian Lewis, Clifton Collins Jr., Burt Reynolds, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Nicholas Hammond, Keith Jefferson, Scoot McNairy, Mike Moh, Spencer Garrett, and so many more.
Like most of Tarantino’s takes on history, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood should be a revisionist telling of the Manson Family murders and the events of the time. It should be interesting to see how Pitt and DiCaprio’s characters play a role in this, especially since it has been confirmed that DiCaprio’s fictional character is one of Tate’s neighbors.
